RVA Street Art: G40 Art Summit (Part II)

Last week, I posted the first batch of photos of the murals that were painted as part of Art Whino's G40 Art Summit in 2012.  Today, I'm sharing the rest.

One thing that makes street art so unique is the fact that it's outside, interacting with the people, the weather, and the ever-changing nature of the city itself.  A lot of the murals I've photographed have faded and a few have been painted over already. This particular art form is not delicately framed and protected, it's exposed - boldly existing on surfaces that are in constant use.

The quest to photograph all the murals in Richmond has already lead to a lot of illegal parking.  Some of these paintings are tucked away in alleys and the backs of buildings.  I've really enjoyed exploring parts of the city I never even knew were there to find these guys.

This mural has faded a lot in the three years since it was painted.  As you can see in this photo from RVA News, it was originally much darker and bolder.  The deep reds are almost completely gone now.

Another issue I've had during this project is that there are so many people doing things in the city!  (Who knew?) A lot of murals were blocked by cars and people and construction.

It was tough to get a good picture of this one because they were doing a ton of landscaping at the YMCA.

I'm pretty sure I got in their way in the name of blogging.  I'm sorry, landscapers!

As I mentioned earlier, a few of the 2012 murals have already been painted over.  This cow mural was painted over another piece by Jaz, and I can't seem to find any information about it.  It looks like it's part of Moo Burgers, the restaurant that replaced Nile Ethopian Restaurant. I can't find any info on them either, other than their mediocre Yelp rating.  If anybody knows who painted this and when, please let me know!

Two murals on Broad Street have also been painted over, but I'm saving that for another post!
